LaNana Creek Press Summer Book and Letterpress Intensive

July 8—August 5, 2007
Deadline for registration is February 1, 2007; attendance is limited to 10 participants

The Intensive was created for printers, binders, or other book artists who wish to hone their skills while working on a major book project.

LaNana Creek Press Summer Book and Letterpress Intensive is your chance—your chance as a professional printer, as a lover of letterpress, as a would-be binder of books—to learn the skills you need from masters and practitioners of the craft.

In four weeks, you will design, print, and bind an edition of books on the subject of your choosing, for less than the cost of many week-long workshops. The LaNana Summer Intensive is not a workshop at all, really, but a place to collaborate, critique, and create letterpress printing and bookbinding under the guidance of some of the best printers and book workers in America today.

And, when the month is over, you will be able to take away your new skills, or your improved skills, and produce letterpress work and bookbinding of the very highest quality.
The participant, whether novice or expert, will print and bind a book of approximately four signatures, 7 x 9 inches in dimension. The work will be letterpress-printed from either metal type, polymer plates, or in combination, in an edition of at least 10. Participants will learn or perfect the setting of metal type, basic book design, using InDesign for computer typesetting, photopolymer plate making, press set-up and imposition for printing multiple pages. Basic printmaking instruction and assistance for printing images with silkscreen, etching, drypoint, and relief blocks will be provided for those who want to explore these diverse printing techniques.

The LaNana Creek Press has two Vandercooks, a Chandler & Price, a Kluge letterpress, two lithographic and two etching presses available. Facilities for making negatives, positives, photopolymer plates and silk-screens, as well as a Mac Lab, are all in-house.
